Hey y’all!
Please be advised that the front escalators at the Marriott Marquis will be unavailable during Furry Weekend Atlanta 2025 as they are being entirely replaced with brand new escalators. We have been working hard to put a solid plan in place to keep things moving smoothly for all of our attendees.
The Plan
(You can see a map of this plan at the bottom of this page)
Accessibility
We’ve taken care to ensure accessibility remains a top priority throughout the weekend.
- There will be a dedicated accessibility queue for the elevators on all 3 main floors for those who need it.
- Additionally, the back elevators in the Marriott (serving the Lobby, Marquis, and International levels) will be available for anyone who needs them.
Back Escalators
The escalators in the back of the Marquis will remain in service, and we kindly ask that attendees who are able to use the stairs do so, so that those escalators can remain available for our guests with accessibility needs and fursuiters.
Stairwell Access
To help with traffic flow between the main floors, we will be utilizing the stairwells throughout the hotel. Each stairwell location has two sets of stairs that will have clearly marked up and down directions to help everyone get where they need to go quickly and safely. We highly recommend using the stairwells to move between the convention center if you are able to do so.
Elevator Plan
There will be elevator queues on both the Atrium and Marquis floors, the floor you queue on depends on the guest floor you are trying to get to.
- Atrium Level: Floors 18-30 & 31-41
- Marquis Level: Floors 1-17 & 42-47
- Lobby Level: Exit only, exceptions only for those being escorted by bell hops or those with ADA needs.
ADA will be able to board on any floor, including lobby level.
All of the elevators in the Marriott Marquis have been renovated and have new technology to track the amount of passengers in a car. These sensors will measure for 10 passengers. If the elevators detect the car is over the maximum capacity the doors will not close. The renovations as well as the new sensors will help to greatly reduce issues with the elevators in the Marriott.
Hotel Access
We are becoming a city-wide convention, and as such we expect more of our attendees to be walking around outside of the convention space to visit the city and the businesses and restaurants around it.
To reduce traffic flow between the different levels, we ask all of our attendees to also consider utilizing the outside sidewalks to move between our hotels rather than using the stairs or elevators to access the different sky bridges in the Marriott.
As we expand into more hotels and convention spaces in the future, this will become the quickest way to get between the different areas of the convention.
To plan for this, we have worked with the city to increase police patrols in the area, and have additionally hired off-duty Atlanta Police officers that we have worked well with in years past to patrol the walking routes between convention hotels between 6pm & 6am. These officers will be in marked Atlanta Police cars with their blue lights on but not flashing. Please approach any of these officers if you have any immediate safety concerns and they’ll be happy to assist you.
Additionally, the City of Atlanta will have “City Ambassadors” stationed at intersections between the hotels all weekend. These City Ambassadors will be easily identifiable, and we will have more information about them closer to the convention.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to make FWA 2025 the best it can be.

Why are the escalators down?
The escalators inside the Marriott are the original escalators that were installed in the hotel when it was first built in 1985. They do not have up to date features and have become increasingly unreliable, as you may have noticed at previous FWAs.
They are being replaced with new escalators that will be more reliable and have modern features like being able to be reversed to all go in the same direction to handle the movement of larger crowds.

The front escalators will not be working on any of the floors.
What escalators are out of service for the duration of the event?
